I am curious how many of you will NOT seek health care for yourself or your family if your insurance won't cover it?
Do we really believe an insurance company has our best interest in mind when they make their list of "covered services"?
I share my concern because I see the effects of allowing an institution to make such personal choices for us. We need to reconsider the actual cost of HEALTH CARE in terms of the following criteria:
1. Financial burden of the insurance itself (Do we really use all that we are paying for? Is there a less expensive policy that allows me to keep some funds to purchase care of my own choosing?)
2. The cost to us in our productivity (are the treatments and medications helping us have a higher quality life?)
3. Are we doing EVERYTHING we can DAILY to PROTECT and IMPROVE our HEALTH? (What is the quality of the food we have eaten so far today? Are we moving our body in a way that promotes fluidity and freedom VS pain and suffering? Are we taking our medications or supplements in a way that best serves us? Are we getting enough good quality sleep? Are we keeping our stress from becoming DI-STRESS? Are we taking "TIME" to feed ourselves spiritually, emotionally, socially?
I'd love to hear from you on this topic.... even in the form of questions or simple comments!
Happy Easter to you and your families...
With much respect and love,
Namaste,
Nancy

I am posting this email I just received for those of you who might be interested in attending this incredible seminar. I am hoping they make it to the west coast soon.
ReplyDeleteHello,
Do you want to know how powerful food really is?
If so, I would like to invite you to join me and dozens of other medical experts and progressive thinkers in a two-day seminar held by the Urban Zen Foundation called “The Well-Being Speaker Series: A Focus on Nutrition.”
This seminar, which is an outcome of the foundation’s mission to “change the current healthcare paradigm to include integrative medicine and promote patient advocacy” is a rare opportunity to gain access to some of the most advanced research on health and nutrition presented by people who are truly at the cutting edge of the field.
The Urban Zen Foundation has assembled a remarkable group of speakers this year that includes doctors like Mehmet Oz, T. Collin Campbell, Frank Lippman, and yours truly.
You can also hear presentations given by Rodney Yee, Robert “Chodo” Campbell, and others. Topics covered include the power of plant-based nutrition, treating diabetes with food, nutrition for women, and detoxification.
I will be giving a presentation based on my new book The UltraMind Solution that discusses how food is not only medicine but information that can be used to program your genes, how it is this dynamic interplay between our genes, our diet, our lifestyle, and our environment that determines how healthy we are, and how you can heal your mind by healing your body first.
This seminar is open to lay people and medical professionals alike. If you are not a medical professional but wish to deepen your knowledge of the power that food has to heal your body and your brain, this is a wonderful opportunity. If you are a doctor, the seminar not only promises you an excellent foundation in the principles of diet and lifestyle change but also a platform for brainstorming with other people in the field and networking with likeminded colleagues.
All of this will take place in the Urban Zen Center, a beautiful and peaceful setting that will sharpen your mind, heal your body, and replenish your spirit.
And the cost is EXTREMELY reasonable for the wealth of information you will receive by attending.
One day series ticket is $80 and a Two-day series package is $150.
So please join us!

I hope to see you there!
To your good health,
Mark Hyman, M.D.
Wouldn't it be great if this seminar came to Redding? My first reaction is 'IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN' but as I am learning through my Yoga I need to keep a positive attitude. So I say 'WHY NOT REDDING'!!
ReplyDeleteI agree Judy! So as this blog gets bigger and more powerful we will be able to bring people like this to our area. Keep seeing it!
ReplyDeleteThe health insurance that Don (my husband) has and the insurance that I have total $1420 each month. We are very fortunate that the school district covers part of Don's and Mercy Hospital covers part of mine. Don and I are both retired so we live on a fixed income. The other great thing is that our house is paid for so the health insurance just took the place of the mortgage payment after we retired (actually the health insurance is more then the mortgage). We both get a large part of our care from Alternative medicine providers who do not have a Blue Cross contract. All those expenses we pay out of pocket. There have been many times that we put off care because of the cost. Due to the fact that Don has had cancer we hesitate to change to a different policy. The other terrible thing that Blue Cross does is they only allow so many physical therapists to have Blue Cross contract in a given area. I was referred for PT for a neck problem which would include some Pilates instructions, but unfortunately they do not have a BX contract. I can not afford to go right now. It is very distressing to be paying so much for insurance that is not covering some of our care.
